McDonald’s are making a significant move in the fight against single-use plastics by replacing their current straws with paper ones.

With the government unveiling plans that could see plastic cups, stirrers & straws being banned, it is refreshing to see such a large chain take the initiative to step up these plans. This comes after McDonald’s have been keeping the straws behind the counter, to keep more of a control of how many straws being used (according the the BBC, 1.8 million straws are used daily at McDonald’s restaurants).

The change is due to take place across all of it’s UK & Ireland restaurants. These changes will take place from September with the move expected to be completed in early 2019.
