As we all look to enjoy the glorious summer weather and spend more time at the seaside, remember to keep our beaches clean

It is great to see a proper British summer. But whilst we enjoy the sunshine and head for the coasts, there is an important focus on keeping our beaches clean – and ‘turning the tide’ on the litter we find scattering our oceans.

What can we do to help?

  • We can all start by making sure we leave no rubbish behind – after a recent trip to the beach, it was great to see so many bins that were recycling-friendly. So there are no excuses!
  • Try to reuse your single-use plastic – In this weather, we need to make sure we stay hydrated so plenty of drinks bottles are used.  Since the plastic bag levy was introduced in England in 2015, we now use 85% less plastic bags. Will it take introducing a levy on plastic bottles before people start reusing them?
  • Volunteer in a local beach clean – There are lots of opportunities to lend a hand and collect some litter. It can be quite eye-opening to see just how much litter you can collect in just 10 minutes!
  • Tell 5 other people about how they can keep the beach clean – word of mouth in a community has always been the best way to see change.

These are things we can all do to help keep our oceans and beaches clean and protect for future generations
