Vacuum Forming

Vacuum forming is where the piece of plastic is heated until soft and then sucked onto the mould, left to cool and removed from the mould. It is a good and cost effective way of making durable long life packaging.

A vac-formed tray tends to be designed around your component to hold it firmly & securely in a cost-effective and durable plastic. Therefore we strongly recommend you contact us to discuss your requirements. For a more generic shaped tray please see our dunnage section.

Unlike other thermoplastic forming processes, where powder or granulate are the starting point, vacuum forming uses extruded plastic sheet. This process is where a flat sheet of extruded plastic is heated until pliable. It is then allowed to shape by applying a vacuum.

Due to the simplicity of the tools with tapered walls and smooth corners, the produced trays are ideal for cleaning & re-using – making them a very cost-effective solution for medium to high volumes.

There is a wide choice of materials and colours available. RTP Materials handling can recommend the right material for you to suit your use & requirements.
